Freeze Warning Preparation – 2025

Being prepared is the first step in reducing costly home repairs and emergency situations during inclement weather . Here are some tips to help keep you warm, safe and reduce the chance of damage to your residence and/or property:

  • Shop earlier for supplies! When dangerous weather is pending, don’t wait to stock up on useful items, such as pipe insulation, bottled water, canned goods, hygiene & feminine products, pet food, batteries, flashlights, wood for fire places, gas powered generator if possible, and blankets. Checking fuel levels in your vehicle and toping off if necessary is also a good idea.
  • Stock up on medications and first aid supplies! Road conditions may become hazardous during inclement weather, so make sure you have at least a weeks worth of first aid needs and prescribed medications on hand.
  • Insulating outside water pipes! Check around and near your home and property to insure there are no exposed water pipes. Covering any outside faucets, water spigots and turning off automated water sprinkler systems is a must during freezing temps.
  • Check on elderly family members and friends prior to inclement weather. They may not have the resources to stock up on supplies, and may require assistance.
  • Bring outside pets indoors! Remember: If you’re cold, they’re cold. Bring them into a warm area with plenty of bedding. If your pet requires a prescription medication, make sure you have a least a weeks worth on hand during the inclement weather.
  • Checking all window and door sills to ensure proper fit and that they are air tight to prevent cold air from entering and warm air from escaping. This is especially important in case of power loss in your home.
  • Cover outside plants and shrubbery with sheets. Covering your landscaping will help minimize the risk of damage caused by frost and freezing temps, and when possible, bring potted plants indoors.

Holiday Tips

FOG – FATS, OILS, GREASE
Don’t let your Holiday Celebrations get clogged by FOG

Fried turkeys, bacon grease, giblet gravy, buttered rolls…holiday celebrations are a time for festive get togethers – not for FOG (Fats, Oil & Grease) to clog pipes which can cause major and costly repairs to homes and your community’s sewer system.

Sanitary sewer blockages typically increase during the holidays. When FOG, even food scraps, go down the kitchen sink or garbage disposal, they can cause blockages in your pipes that can lead to overflows. The FOG material will solidify and basically stick to the sewer pipe; it won’t move only “grow” if you keep pouring these illicit items down the drain (gross!). Over time that FOG will restrict the flow in the pipe and cause major sewer backups in your home or your community’s sewer system. Nobody wants that – it is costly, nasty, and horrible for the environment.

And those “flushable” wipes are a major issue, too. They may be marked “flushable” but they don’t break down like toilet paper. You’re basically flushing a handkerchief down the toilet. This cloth-like material is horrible for your sanitary sewer system. Your household pipes and treatment plant are not designed to handle these wipes. They are causing havoc to our wastewater systems. If you think overflow from your kitchen sink is bad, how about an overflow from your clogged toilet? If you must use these wipes, throw them in the trash – do not flush them!

Help do Your part to Keep Your Pipes Flowing!

2024 Sanitary Sewer Cleaning and Televising Project

In order to maintain the sanitary sewer collection system and continue to provide high quality wastewater service to Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District 81 (District), the District authorized the cleaning and televising of a portion of the District’s sanitary sewer pipes in accordance with the District’s Capital Improvement Program.  The project is expected to be completed by the end of August 2024.

The scope of work includes cleaning and televising approximately 33,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer collection lines ranging from 8-inch in diameter to 15-inch in diameter. The project also includes the inspection of 178 sanitary sewer manholes. The videos will be reviewed by the District Engineer to determine the condition of the system and identify any maintenance issues.  If there are issues identified, the District plans to rehabilitate the affected pipes and manholes as part of the Capital Improvement Program.  The contractor, Kleen Environmental, LLC (Kleen) will provide notification to all affected residents and customers of the District including placing door hangers a minimum of 48 hours and not more than 72 hours before work is to commence in the affected area.  The door hanger will provide schedule and contact information plus instructions for actions needed to be performed by residents and customers in preparation for the cleaning and televising work.

In performance of the work, Kleen will access the sanitary sewer via the sanitary sewer manholes.  The manholes and pipes are located predominately in the front of lots in the following sections:

  • Weston Lakes Sections 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, & 19
  • Fairway Villas
  • Bradford on the Bend Section 1

Storm Water Management Program

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (the “TCEQ”) plans to issue the renewed Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System General Permit No. TXR040000 (the “General Permit”) this year to regulate the quality of storm water conveyed through public storm sewer systems. Fort Bend County MUD 81 (the “District”) will be required to comply with this renewed General Permit for 5 years and will require the preparation of annual reports outlining the actions completed by the District to regulate the quality of storm water in its storm sewer system.

The District has authorized Quiddity Engineering, its current engineering consultant, to develop a Storm Water Management Program to ensure these regulations are met and are properly documented. Quiddity will create clear, specific and measurable goals that meet the General Permit’s requirements for storm water quality regulation to be followed by all District consultants.

Once prepared, the annual reports will be posted on the District’s website for public record and Quiddity anticipates completion of the Annual Report for Permit Year 1 to be no later than March 30, 2025.
