Recent media reports regarding cybersecurity threats to public infrastructure such as our MUD 81 water system have prompted questions from residents about the security of our water facilities – we want to assure our resident customers that OPERATIONAL CONTROL of the Fort Bend County MUD 81 water production and distribution system is NOT INTERNET CONNECTED and cannot be operated remotely through any external network. Our water facilities are exclusively managed through local, on-site control systems with no exposure to outside cybersecurity risks!
In addition, the District’s operators and engineers routinely monitor system operations and maintain well established security procedures to protect critical infrastructure and ensure reliable service delivery. Should conditions change, updates will be provided through this MUD 81 website and other resident notification channels.
