SUPPLY AND DISTRIBUTION systems

Water Plant 1 Equipment

2-Storage tanks  1-Hydro tank  4-Booster pumps  2- Wells with pumps

Water Plant 2 Equipment

  2-storage tanks  1-Hydro tank  4-Booster pumps  1-well with pump

These systems could experience any of the following:

  1. Damage to water plant equipment  2. Contamination of the system  3. Chlorine release

1. Damage to water plant equipment:

There is sufficient redundancy to ride through any loss of equipment Except loss of the wells. Should water rationing be required, the "Drought Emergency Plan" will be activated.

2. Contamination of the System

Chemical

If daily residual chlorine content shows a marked decrease (indicating a contamination) or if suspicious activity is reported or detected near any plant, that plant and the system will be tested and may be shut down. If shut down, the Operator will activate their emergency Response plan. The system may take 1 to 2 days to flush and restore services.

Bacteriological

If daily residual chlorine shows a marked decrease, then the system will be tested and warnings issued per the Operator's ERP. If the entire system is contaminated, it may take from 1-3 days to restore the system.

Chlorine Release

The existing chlorine detectors will alarm and the ERP will be in action. Homes within 300 feet downwind of the plant will be notified and evacuated if necessary.

Sewage Plant

Should the entire plant fail, the Operator would be authorized to contact sludge hauling companies who would bring in sufficient 5,000 to 10,000 gallon portable holding tanks (or larger if deemed necessary). Using portable pumps, the contents of each lift station would be pumped to the sewage plant and then into the portable holding tanks.
The waste, considered as Class B sludge, would be pumped into waiting sludge hauler trucks for proper disposal at an authorized landfill. Since the operator will need to arrange for the holding tanks rental and the sludge hauler, it will be prudent to take a fast track approach to correct the problem and make the necessary repairs.

  Chlorine Release

Refer to the above Water Supply and Distribution Chlorine Release section.
